Due to our country’s dependency on foreign energy, climate change and my brothers and cousins stationed in the Middle East, I decided to help the situation the best way I knew how; by using 12 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulics to work in the renewable energy industry. I spent the better part of a year trying to get into the industry, with no luck. Then I read about Airstreams Renewables, Inc. and their Wind Turbine Technician Training program and I signed up.
I went to Tehachapi, California and attended their 20-day course on wind turbine technologies. All of the instructors were very knowledgeable and friendly and took time to make sure everyone understood the curriculum. Some of it I thought I would never use-some things I didn't know why I even needed to learn it. But after one week on the job, I knew why they had taught me.
After graduating, a few weeks went by and I thought I still wasn't going to get a job in the industry. But, just like Mike Messier said, I needed to " Just give it a little time". I received three offers in one week, before taking the best one. When other employees I now work with found out I went to Airstreams, they all said the same thing-that by going to Airstreams Renewables I am probably more knowledgeable than most people who have been doing this job for years. I have more certifications than most of them, and the guys I work with are all impressed when I need no instructions to perform very complex work, like I have been doing this for years.
I had a great time at Airstreams and really liked the Tehachapi area too. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to better their lives and make a positive difference for our nation and our planet.
And by the way, the money is not bad either.
